Description
June 2023 will mark the 30th anniversary of the NIH Revitalization Act of 1993, a law which mandated the inclusion of women and minorities in all NIH-funded research. WHAM is excited to recognize the anniversary of this historic Act by hosting a series of virtual (and in-person) events throughout the year, exploring what’s changed, what hasn’t, and where we need to go next. In 1993, Dr. Nanette Wenger's seminal paper, "Cardiovascular Health and Disease in Women" in the New England Journal of Medicine, shook the medical community by highlighting the striking differences in women's heart disease risks, prognosis, treatment and outcomes. Despite advances in our understanding in some areas of women and cardiovascular disease, the #1 killer of women, the field appears to be still largely understudied and underfunded. Where do we stand today, and where do we need to be? Join us for this roundtable dialogue, featuring: - Dr. Jennifer Hall, Chief, Data Science, American Heart Association - Carolee Lee, CEO and Founder, WHAM - Dr. Kathy Magliato, Founder, CEO, Chief Medical Officer, Cordex Systems, Inc.; one of the few female cardiothoracic surgeons in the world - Dr. Stacey Rosen, Senior Vice President, Women's Health, Katz Institute for Women's Health, Northwell Health - Dr. Nanette Wenger, Director, Cardiac Clinics, Grady Health; Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Emory University School of Medicine
